Bagshawe condemns ‘North Londonshire’ advertising campaign
9th March 2010
Louise Bagshawe, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Corby and East Northants, has strongly condemned North Northants Development Company’s (NNDC) ‘North Londonshire’ advertising campaign.
Louise said:
“I’m outraged by this. It looks like a bad joke. Northamptonshire is an ancient and beautiful county with a proud heritage. Our vibrant towns and glorious English countryside are something to shout from the rooftops about.
“Instead, this campaign tramples all over local people's pride in Northamptonshire. Where exactly is “North Londonshire”? I've got lots of maps and can't find it on a single one.”
Louise added:
“It’s concerning that we are advertising for yet more people to move to our area while the government refuses to give Northamptonshire a fair deal. Money for our services is being calculated on population figures from 2001. That’s why there’s a giant hole in the county’s road budget, for instance”.
“London has one character, but I can assure NNDC that Northamptonshire’s is very different. Our county is not some B-list version of London suburbia.
“This campaign should be abolished and, in future, all materials of this sort should be submitted to full council at both District and Borough, and County levels. My Conservative council colleagues are just as upset as I am that the majority of them never had a chance to reject the wording of these adverts.”
