Louise Bagshawe visits Danesholme Infant School in support of 1GOAL to get every child into school
16th July 2010
Louise Bagshawe will be visiting Danesholme Infant School in Corby on Friday 16th July to hear from pupils supporting 1GOAL – Send My Friend to School to help get education for the 72 million children worldwide who are currently missing out on even a basic primary education.
1 million schoolchildren in the UK, from almost 9000 schools, have now signed up to the campaign which is running in 100 countries. 1GOAL, a campaign supported by many celebrities and over 100 famous footballers, including David James, Peter Crouch and Michael Owen, uses the power of football to ensure that education for all is the lasting impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Louise Bagshawe will be hearing from the children who have been learning about the barriers which stop millions of children in the developing world from realizing their basic human right for education, and will be presented with a World Cup scarf the pupils have made.
Pupils have been invited to show their support for 1GOAL - Send My Friend to School by creating and signing giant supporter scarves to send to the Prime Minister ahead of the Millennium Development Talks in September, to remind him and other world leaders of their promise to make sure that all children have a primary education by 2015.
Louise Bagshawe said:
"I’m looking forward to visiting Danesholme Infant School to support the 1GOAL - Send My Friend to School initiative. Every child, no matter where they live in the world, should be receiving the decent standard of education they’re entitled to.
“I am especially pleased to hear of the support of our local schools. Each and every child who is involved in this campaign should be incredibly proud of speaking up on behalf of those who are less fortunate than themselves and championing access to education for all."
