Louise welcomes memorial for Northamptonshire’s fallen heroes
16th June 2010
Louise Bagshawe, Member of Parliament for Corby and East Northamptonshire, has welcomed the news that a memorial honouring 78 soldiers from The Royal Anglian Regiment will be dedicated at a ceremony at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford on 12 September.
The memorial remembers soldiers who have been killed on duty from 1958, when the Regiment was formed, to the present day conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Louise Bagshawe said:
“There is an immense feeling of pride in our Armed Forces across Corby and East Northamptonshire and a heartfelt appreciation of our troops’ bravery and dedication.
“The memorial to be unveiled at Duxford on 12 September will serve not only to symbolise that pride and remind us all of that bravery and the loss suffered by the families, but also as a permanent sign that we shall never forget our soldiers’ sacrifice.
“I was very moved to read that following the Evening Telegraph’s appeal in May, the relatives of Private Bernard Fox, of Corby, who was killed in Aden in 1964, were traced.
“In my maiden to speech to Parliament last week I gave my backing to our troops serving abroad and set out my intention to campaign in Parliament for improved support services for our troops when they return home from duty.
“As Corby’s MP I will continue to support our Armed Forces in every possible way.”
